Downtown Providence Engagement // Kara + Joe // Providence, RI
Downtown Providence engagement sessions. Never knew I needed them but man do I know now! There’s so much art and history. I met Kara and Joe on a cloudy afternoon in Providence, Rhode Island for their engagement session. We had to shoot this fall engagement in short bursts between warming up in the car because it was randomly below freezing out on the day of our shoot in true New England fashion. If you look closely you can see the ground was covered in frost. Kara and Joe were such good sports about it plus I made them jump around a lot. My favorite part about this shoot was when I gave them a prompt to dance with each other. Normally people like, slow dance or practice their first dance, but these two just started breaking it down! haha
My second favorite part about this shoot was how we incorporated the vibrant mural into their photos for some color on this cloudy, frigid day in downtown Providence. We were all so enamored with this beautiful mural, we obviously had to google it while warming up in the car. Titled, “Still Here” it actually has a great story behind it.
Painted by Baltimore-based muralist Gaia, in collaboration with the Tomaquag Museum, the piece pays tribute to the indigenous heritage and peoples of the city. Pictured in the painting is Lynsea Montanari, a member of the Narragansett tribe and educator at the museum, holding a picture of Princess Red Wing, a Narragansett elder who founded the Tomaquag Museum sixty years ago. As the sun set, we drove up to Prospect Terrace Park on the top of the hill overlooking Providence in all its glory. The view was unreal and you can literally drive to the top; new favorite spot for engagement photos in Rhode Island!
